From Williams lake, we made a trip to Farwell Canyon in the Chilcotin district. This is where we first encountered the Canadian gravel roads. For us Dutchies it seemed almost like off-roading, for the average Canadian it's just a road you drive a bit slower on. Anyway, the car got dirty (just a bit on this photo, it was a lot worse when we got back...), but the views were amazing along the way. Farwell Canyon used to be a First Nation salmon fishing spot, you can easily imagine them being caught in the shallow part of the Chilcotin river in the bends through the canyon. There were a couple of abandoned sheds there and a not so comfortable sofa. :-)
Like many places we visited in the Williams Lake area, we were the only ones at that spot at the time and really got to enjoy the quiet beauty of nature, in this case only to be disturbed by the sounds of the wild Chilcotin river.
After that we had a nice lunch at the Chilcotin Lodge (the owner has a nice oldtimer) and of course I had to take a picture of Sheep Creek Bridge that crosses the Fraser river, a river which we saw earlier when we drove from Vancouver up to Williams Lake.
